Earth day is important because it has the possibility to bring awareness to issues that are plaguing our environment. Unfortunately, the holiday is largely glossed over and is mores promotes celebration rather than action. We really don't think about climate change and deforestation enough, and its hard to get people to take action against something we are extremely familiarized with. To us, climate change is natural because we have lived for it so long. If the effects of climate change more directly affected our daily lives, then we would be more concerned with it, and that's really terrible; it's like we are only looking out for ourselves in the smallest ways possible. If we all took more time to assess what's happening and what could happen in the future (tomorrow may seem far away but it's just around the corner), maybe we could really becoming proactive in preserving what we could.
