Journal #5: Repetition & Rhythm/Movement

Repetition and pattern are similar, but they are not the same thing. A pattern is a set of identical pieces of an image that come together, whereas repetition is just a repeated part of an image where the pieces don't need to be identical. In short, a pattern is a type of repetition, but not all forms of repetition are patterns. In the example below, which is a photograph, the type of repetition we see is a pattern, as each individual piece is nearly exactly the same as the rest.

Rhythm/Movement are self explanatory, they are the principals that designers use to make their image look less static. In the example below, the lines mimic dominoes falling over, and therefore they spread kinetic energy onto the design.
